The Grinch is a Christmas classic in all of it's iterations. From the original to the Carrey to the newest 2018 version, the Grinch has found his way into our holiday traditions. In a previous theory I talked about the problems with his heart growing three sizes. Today, I'm here to figure out if the Grinch was RIGHT to be angry at the Whos. You see, I think there was a reason we all missed - a medical reason. Get your earmuffs ready, Theorists, we're about to get LOUD!

Now I'm wondering if I have Misophonia- Exp. if I'm trying to sleep and I hear a clock ticking it annoys me and I can't ignore it so in order for me to go to bed I have to take the clock down. But if there's a repetitive sound that I cannot stop/control I'm able to ignore it a lot more. Most of the time chewing noises don't bother me just small repetitive noises tend to annoy me.

one mistake, the sound doesnt need to travel the whole way the grinch sled down the hill, except if the hill is a perfect 45° slope to the center of the sound, so its probably a little less way, but the snow should work but snow acts as sound absorber so the sound and it wouldnt be reflected that good

I actually have a theory for Matpat: In "A hat in time", does The Snatcher have PTSD? Well, I happened to be very interested in this hypothesis and decided to look into his behavior in-game and I found out that many of his dialogue and actions back up my theory. One example of this is after Hat Kid fights him. Hat Kid graffitis one of his contracts saying she wants to befriend him and The Snatcher pushes her away telling her to get out of his forest. Later it is revealed that He was once a prince who had a terrible relationship that ended up scaring him in the end. (You find this in one of the storybooks and notes found around Queen Venessa's castle) A lot of the evidence adds up and I'm pretty sure my hypothesis is correct, but I'm not sure...

I wasn’t willing to accept the idea that I may want to go talk to a professional about potentially having misophonia until it was explained that the inability to ignore certain sounds may be a part of it. I’ve always assumed it was me being an irrational person who has anger problems and hates the sound of a click clacking chewing mouth. Now, I’m not so sure. Does anyone with Misophonia care to share their experience with dead silence? I find that I can’t have no noise, but there are certain sounds in my everyday environment that I have to block out to maintain focus.

  56. TophKid

    TophKid5 dögum síðan

I’m not a person who has misophonia but I am an Audiologist who has specialized training working with patients with misophonia. The main way we diagnose is finding the emotional and physical reactions to specific sounds. Depending on a patient’s level of severity and other individual qualities we will develop a treatment plan to reduce the brain’s reaction to the sound using sound therapy and counseling. As far as your question about silence, it’s not uncommon for people to want to have some noise in the background. Our brain is programmed to detect sound and when put into absolute silence it will begin to amplify anything including our own heartbeat and breathing. If you have any questions or want more information I’m more than happy to help. :)

Omg I'm not the only one! This is why I absolutely cannot STAND mukbang. There is nothing more disturbing than the sound of someone eating. Slurping, chewing, the way the teeth scrape the metal, the sound of swallowing, that little smack people tend to do after swallowing. It got so bad that anything even remotely similar to this sets me off, particularly kissing. It took my boyfriend, now husband, ages to figure out it wasn't him I was disgusted with and that I wasn't refusing to kiss him because he had bad breath or something. My mom had a hole in her tooth for a long time and after covering my ears when I was probably 10, the look on her face and the "I have a hole in my tooth, I can't help it". Ugh! Even thinking about it now just crushes my heart to the point of actually tearing up. My mom's not an overly emotional person, actually quite stoic but she just seemed so sad when she said it, it legit broke my heart. So I never brought it up again and instead was allowed to wear headphones because I convinced my parents it was a studying method. Thinking back, they probably knew but didn't want me to feel bad. That didn't last long, though, because I could hear myself chewing and that set me off worse. I developed an eating disorder because the sound of my own chewing would cause me such distress I just tried not eating altogether. My sister had a sinus issue when we were kids that made her a pretty loud breather when she slept. My mom gave me earplugs but the sound of my own breathing and swallowing kept me up. I never knew there was a word for it or even that it was a thing. I just assumed it was me. Sigh. Now, I've just learned to chew quietly by having just the right amount of saliva in my mouth to be able to break up the food and swallow lol. Wow, I wrote way more than I intended to. Sorry, I sort of just ran with it.

My anger was a lot worse when I was younger, but I still get mildly annoyed and upset when I hone in on those types of sounds. Dude, I have that, and I thought it was pronounced (Miss)ophonia. I googled it a while back, and that word popped out. My family chews with an open mouth, and type way too hard on their keyboards. It gives me mixed emotions. At times I want to cry, other times, I have violent thoughts and 3 times out of 10, I'll probably hit them or something. I always try and tell myself it's okay, and it's just a sound, but it doesn't work. Sometimes talking is just annoying. My ears feel like they hurt, but that's just me telling myself they hurt. To be honest though, I don't like having it, but if I could choose, I would keep it. It's apart of me.
